Avoid Credit Repair Scams

When individuals or families become overwhelmed with their debt they will begin to look into many options in order to find a means to help them manage their debt and correct their credit.

Most people will eventually find themselves looking into agencies and/or companies that specialize in credit repair.

However, for every diamond in the rough, there is also a lump coal. For this reason you should be very careful when entering into a contract with a credit repair company. Many of them have been proven to be scams.

Many of these credit repair agencies will claim that they can provide fast debt relief.

However, most debt can’t be taken care over a few short months. For most people, credit repair is something that will not be achieved for years. It is a process by which all past debts must be repaid and all future debts must be avoided. Most of credit repair agencies that claim they can provide quick debt relief are organizations that will simply tell you to file bankruptcy. And bankruptcy stays on your credit for ten years from the time you file it. How can that be debt relief?

The majority of credit repair scams are easy to spot if you know what to look for. Many of them claim that they will create you a new identity. You should be aware that creating a new identity is an illegal action. Any credit repair organization that claims or suggests that this is the best way to repair your credit is not only scamming you, but they are also suggesting you involve yourself in illegal actions.

If you seek council with a credit repair agency and they tell you that they will dispute every thing that is on your credit report, even the items that you do owe and are aware you owe, you should immediately turn and walk away.

Just as it is illegal to create a new identity to escape debt it is also illegal to lie about your debts in order to seek relief from paying them. Even disputing an accurate item on your credit report is illegal. Any one who tells you otherwise is a crook and/or scam artist.

Any credit repair company that tells you that they can guarantee that they can fix your credit and get you approved for loans and or credit cards, as long as you pay an upfront fee, are no doubt scammers.

A legitimate credit repair service will never guarantee or promise such things. They will however walk you through your rights and the legal ways in which to improve or find relief from your debt.

One sure fire way to protect yourself from these types of credit repair scam artists is to contact you local Better Business Bureau and ask them about the credit repair service before doing business with them.

Your greatest asset in sniffing out credit repair scam artists is to use some good old fashioned common sense. If it seems to good to be true, chances are that it is.
