A self select ISA is a shares ISA that allows you to choose the stocks and shares that you invest in yourself.
Shares ISAs allow you to earn interest free from income/capital gains tax and can also give other tax breaks is reason enough for most people to use up some or all of their ISA allowance every year.

A TESSA only ISA (TOISA) is an ISA that allows you to transfer a TESSA (Tax Exempt Special Savings Account) into it when it matures. UPDATE: TESSA only ISA accounts have been now officially replaced by CASH ISAs and are now defunct.
